Reminders: Online Payment is up for all upcoming field trips. Click here to go to the site. There are only 12 parent spots available for the New Orleans trip. It is first come first serve. AR: Read and take 2 AR quizzes weekly. Behavior/Work Habits: As I tell my students, at the beginning of the year they are Kindergartners becoming first graders and they have to learn the first grade ropes. Now they are First Graders and we are working on our Second Grade behavior and work habits. This means that Miss Wilder will not be giving chance after chance to correct a behavior or habit. We have done an excellent job with this so far! 2019 is starting off strong!

This is a list of all the sight words that we have worked on since the beginning of the year. Please read these words with your child nightly. Take one column at a time and have your child try to spell them and say them out loud. These words could possibly be used on their spelling test for the sentence. It is great practice for them.
As you have probably seen when you visit my room, I have a wonderful helper that goes by the name Grandma Beal. If you have never seen her in action it is because she does her work behind the scenes. If your child's shirt is tucked in and they are sitting up a bit straighter, it is due to Grandma's need for Room 21 to be the most respected and well dressed room in the school. Also if your child's fluency and reading has improved it is because she reads with your child daily! The students love her and I do too! However, ever since I have worked here, it has been a mystery as to how young Grandma may be. Well today was her birthday and her son came all the way from Atlanta, GA with two of her granddaughters to celebrate her 91st BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! She was so surprised and happy! We ate cupcakes and read Dr. Suess' "Happy Birthday to You" Happy New Year! I am so excited (and shocked) that it is JANUARY! It was so nice to get back to school with my WILD THINGS! Below are some important changes that are occurring this 3rd nine weeks. IMPORTANT UPDATES: SPELLING: 1) We will now have two nights of spelling homework! On Monday students will be able to choose ONE activity from the spelling menu. This is found on the back of the homework sheet. On Tuesday, students will write the words two times each- just as usual. 2) We are now counting off for letters that are written as capitals on spelling tests and for letters that are facing the wrong direction. Please make sure to instill in your child to check their letters and words! :) (I will give many reminders) 3) Starting this week I will dictate a sentence using two spelling words for the students to write on the test. I will be looking for the spelling words written correctly, sight words, sentences beginning with a capital, and ending with a punctuation mark. We will practice many times in class this week. **An example might be "I saw a stone by the mole." AR: Please have your child read two books a week to take AR quizzes! The new goal list and AR slips were sent home today. The class goal is 4 points and the honors (challenge) goal is 8 points for the 3rd nine weeks. Reading rocks! Homework Sheet below!
